Brisbane
- - Go rock-climbing on the southern banks of the Brisbane River at Kangaroo Point, a great venue that is even floodlit at night. Try Adventure Alternatives (07 3857 5692).
- - Hop on a bike and go cycling around the city’s many riverside tracks. Try Valet Cycle Hire (0408 003 198).
- - Get hammered on a brewery tour. Try Castlemaine Perkins Brewery (07 3361 7322).
- - Bomb down a hill, sandboarding on North Stradbroke Island. Try Straddie Adventures (07 3409 8414).
- - Take a river cruise in a wooden paddle steamer down the Brisbane River. Try River Queens (07 3221 1300).
- - Take in one of the many festivals running throughout the year. There is everything from cockroach racing festivals to film, music and theatre.
- - Cuddle a cute, but sleepy critter, at the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Try 07 3378 1366.
- - Go for a trek through Brisbane Forest Park, a 28,500-hectare area of natural bush land that starts only 10km from the city centre. Try City xpress bus #506 from Albert St which will drop you within 500m of the park gates.
- - Take a stroll through the city and grab a bite to eat at a café in Fortitude Valley.
The Gold Coast
- - Surf your brains out on one of the many great beaches that stretch for miles along this area of coastline. Try Australian School of Surfing (0413 380 933).
- - Either go Bungee jumping on Cypress Avenue or get fired upwards in the nearby Sling Shot. Try 07 5570 2700.
- - Go boozing in the town centre where there are an abundance of bars and nightclubs. Try Surfers By Night (0412 499 825).
